COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

KINE 1111 Fitness For Life

This is a cardiorespiratory fitness course in which students participate in a self-paced walking, jogging, or stationary cycling program. Muscular endurance and flexibility exercise are presented. The course includes an introduction to facts, concepts, and application of wellness principles, such as, nutrition, diet and weight control. Prerequisite/Corequisite: ENGL 0305 or 0316 and ENGL 0307 or 0326.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Attend class regularly, be punctual, wear appropriate clothing and participate actively.
  2. Engage in a cardiorespiratory fitness program that includes walking, jogging, or cycling for a sustained period while maintaining a target heart rate.
  3. Assess cardiorespiratory fitness level through a walk, jog, or cycle test at the conclusion of the course.
  4. Maintain or improve flexibility, muscular strength and endurance.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of nutrition, weight management, disease prevention, exercise physiology and qualities of a healthy lifestyle.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of cardiovascular risk factors and attributes of a healthy lifestyle.
  7. Identify appropriate ways to maintain body fat percentage at a healthy level.
  8. Evaluate critically claims and advertisements made about commercial products and programs.
  9. Recognize that idealized images of the human body and performance, as presented by the media, may not be appropriate to imitate.
  10. Appreciate the relationship with others that results from participation in physical activity.
  11. Demonstrate knowledge of Healthy People 2010, which will include family planning, STD? and drug use prevention.
  12. Demonstrate knowledge of and practice stress reduction techniques.
KINE 2111 Fitness for Life (II)

Muscular endurance and flexibility are assessed. Students apply concepts of wellness principles, including nutrition, diet and weight control, and fitness concepts of cardio respiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.

KINE 1111, ENGL 0305 or ENGL 0316 AND ENGL 0307 or 0326, OR higher level course (ENGL 1301), OR placement by testing.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Assess level of muscular fitness through curl-up and push-up assessment.
  2. Apply knowledge of nutrition, weight management, exercise prescription, and a healthy lifestyle.
  3. Demonstrate ability to adapt fitness programs for different populations.
  4. Analyze critically claims and advertisement made about commercial products and programs.
  5. Compare and contrast different types of studies regarding health issues.
  6. Relate values of the various aspects of wellness to personal lifestyles.
KINE 1112 Weight Training

This course emphasizes the development of muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. Current information and research in the areas of nutrition, proper training techniques, workout organizations, complementary exercises and additional wellness principles are presented and integrated into this physical activity course.

KINE 2112 Weight Training (II)

Weight Training II is a continuation of KINE 1112, in which students apply muscular strength, flexibility, endurance and wellness concepts learned in KINE 1112.

  3. Apply concepts of cardiorespiratory fitness
