The Satisfactory Academic Policy for Financial Aid
Each Spring semester, Financial Aid is required by Federal regulations to evaluate all financial aid recipients to ensure students are maintaining satisfactory academic progress in a course of study leading toward a college degree, certificate, or educational objective.
Federal guidelines stipulate that this policy applies to ALL enrollment periods at Lone Star College System regardless of whether or not the recipient was receiving financial aid at the time.
There are two components to the satisfactory academic progress (SAP) policy:
- Qualitative: Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Quantitative Component: Cumulative Completion Rate
Only courses taken at Lone Star College System will be used to calculate the cumulative GPA and cumulative completion rate.
Financial Aid recipients will also be evaluated for quantitiative progress based on their ability to complete the program of study within a maximum time frame at Lone Star College System. Students who have attempted more than 150% of the normal credits required for their certificate, degree, or educational objective will be subject to a suspension status for financial aid at Lone Star College System.
* Transfer hours - Credit hours previously earned at another institution that are accepted by Lone Star College System will be counted toward the student's maximum time frame at Lone Star College System.

Probation Status
Financial aid recipients who have been placed on a probation status may continue to recieve financial aid for one semester (Fall) during their probation period. In order to receive aid for the spring semester, the student will need to attend an SAP session to regain eligibility. At Lone Star College–Montgomery, this requirement is met by completing an online class through Vista. Students will be able to access the Vista class towards the end of July 2007. Students will have through November 2007 to complete the class successfully so that spring aid can be reinstated. If you have questions about how to complete the Vista class, can not login, or have concerns about completing the class, please contact the Financial Aid office at Lone Star College–Montgomery.

Students do not need to appeal the probation status.
