Entrepreneurship Speaker Series to Cover China, Global Economy on Feb. 11

Everyone knows that the world economic landscape is changing drastically to accommodate the two emerging giants, China and India, in the next century. Indeed, China, with about 1.3 billion people, and India, not far behind with roughly 1.2 billion folks, are experiencing an unprecedented and sustainable economic growth in the last two decades.

What are we going to do about the new challenge as well as the opportunity provided by these phenomena? Is globalization good to our workers, to us as consumers, and to our families? What can we do about entrepreneurship that has made the U.S. as strong as it is today?

Dr. W. Michael Cox, senior vice president and chief economist of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, will be featured at the upcoming Entrepreneurship Speaker Series on Monday, February 11, at the Lone Star College System Training Center (5000 Research Forest Drive) in The Woodlands. The event, sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Institute at Lone Star College-Montgomery and the MC Student Entrepreneurs, will feature a “meet and greet” from noon-12:30 p.m., followed by Cox’s presentation from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Dr. Cox will reveal answers that might be more uplifting than most think.

Dr. Cox, who advises the Federal Reserve Bank’s president on monetary policy and economic issues, also authors the Bank's annual report essays on rising American living standards and the inter-workings of the free market system. These reports have received extensive attention from leading publications, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Forbes, Fortune, Business Week and Investor's Business Daily, which reach an audience of over 200 million. He is also widely published in the nation's leading economics journals, such as the Journal of Monetary Economics and the Review of Economics and Statistics.

His ability to make plain sense out of difficult economic issues has made him a frequent guest on national radio, television and Internet programs, including CNN, Voice of America and National Public Radio. He appeared on John Stossel's ABC program "Is America #1?"

Dr. Cox has taught economics at Southern Methodist University since 1985. His 31 years of university teaching also include Virginia Tech, the University of Rochester and the University of Western Ontario. He received his undergraduate degree in business and economics from Hendrix College and his Ph.D. in economics from Tulane University.
