Biography:
Linda Wiley is a flutist who has been teaching and performing in the surrounding area for seven years. This comes after a 20-year “hiatus” from music during which she taught academic courses for Windham School System, which serves the inmates of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Prior to her correctional education career, she taught flute in several area schools and taught music appreciation and music fundamentals at North Harris County College. She has performed with the Texas Renaissance Festival and the Brazos Symphony Orchestra. Recently she has given solo recitals in Bryan, Brenham, and Huntsville and has performed for several musicals with the Chrighton Players in Conroe. She currently teaches music appreciation and flute at Lone Star College–Montgomery.
In addition to her music, she is a published author. Book titles include Staying Power: How to Get the B. S. Out of College, and Making It Happen: Exploring the Creative Process through the Sculptures of David Adickes. Her articles on correctional education have appeared in several professional journals.
Dr. Wiley lives in Huntsville with her husband, Ray Cheek, who teaches for Windham. She can be seen (and heard) playing at The Homestead on 19th Street, a local Huntsville restaurant, on a regular basis.
