Exploring the past through history...
Teaching Philosophy:
It is my belief that dates in history are important only in relationship to understanding the causes of events and the consequences of those events. Therefore, I do not require that students memorize isolated dates, names, events, etc. However, understanding events, people, and circumstances is very important.
We will discuss recorded and accepted ‘facts’ but we will also consider interpretations and perceptions of those ‘facts.’ We will be searching for the significance of names and dates; the causes and consequences of change.
Teacher Introduction:
I am Mrs. Terry and I am happy you have chosen to take my class this Spring. My parents were among the many Oklahomans who traveled to California during the Depression looking for work. I was born in California but raised in Kansas. I married my Kansas sweetheart and we have two children. I started my college career in 1984 and graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Humanities from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO; I received a Masters Degree in European History from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I am a doctoral candidate in American History at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. I have been teaching college-level history for over sixteen years, and I still enjoy doing so. I love history and I love teaching, so teaching history is a real pleasure.
