COMPENSATION FOR SPECIAL COURSES
Adjunct faculty will be compensated as follows for the following special types of courses or experiences:
Cooperative Work Experience and Internships:
A minimum of ten students will constitute the equivalent of a four hour per week course or 64 contact hours which includes responsibility for the seminar. In this example, a faculty member will be paid their adjunct faculty hourly rate x 64 hours. If less than 10 students are enrolled, the faculty member will be paid for 5 hours per student supervised plus their hourly rate for the 16 hour seminar.
Example: If the faculty member's hourly rate is $37.80, and there are 3 students enrolled, the pay would be: $37.80 x 5 hours per student x 3 students ($567) + 16 seminar hours x $37.80 per contact hour ($604.80) for a total of $1,171.80.
Independent Studies:
When the number of students enrolled in independent studies courses is smaller than that required of a class taught in a traditional manner, faculty will be paid for four hours per student supervised at their adjunct hourly rate.
Example: 6 students x 4 hours per student x hourly rate = $907.20.
Telecourses and Video Courses (pre-packaged instructional materials):
Thirty six students enrolled in a telecourse or video based courses is equivalent to a traditionally taught section and would be paid accordingly.
Example: 48 contact hour History course x hourly rate = pay for course.
If the number of students is less than the minimum required to hold a traditionally taught class, the faculty member will be paid 2 hours of supervision per student x their hourly rate.
Internet Courses:
When the number of students enrolled in an Internet course is less than that required to hold a traditionally taught class, the faculty member will be paid for 4 hours of supervision time per student x their hourly rate.
Applied Music or Private Lessons:
Private lessons involve an extra-service contract based on the rate of $33.60 per hour of instruction.
