Rules and Regulations for Softball
Any rule or play interpretation not covered in these rules shall be governed by the playing rules of the Amateur Softball Association.
- Teams will consist of 10 players. Five females and five males.
- Defensive positioning will consist of two males and two females each in the outfield, also in the infield and one gender in catcher and opposite gender in the pitcher position.
- The field will be official in size with a diamond of 65 feet baselines and a distance of 46 feet from pitching mark to home plate.
- A scoring line shall be marked. Base runners coming home must cross this line instead of touching home plate. An out is made if the defender has possession of the ball and tags the homeplate before the runner crosses the scoring line.
- A catcher’s mask and batting helmets are recommended.
- The game will consist of seven innings.
- Sliding is not recommended and only feet first.
- No courtesy runners allowed.
- The baserunner must avoid contact with infielders.
- Batting order is alternating male and female hitters.
- If a pitcher walks a male batter he advances to second. The next batter has her choice of walking or hitting before the first pitch in her turn.
- Two called strikes or a foul after two strikes is a strikeout.
