PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Administrative position responsible for leadership for assigned instructional areas. Ensures the effectiveness of his/her division including planning and evaluation of student and faculty success. Provides instructional leadership through research/evaluation of educational trends, mentoring of fulltime faculty, and direct teaching experience. Oversees administrative effectiveness of division.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide leadership for planning, development, evaluation and improvement of instructional areas within assigned division.
Implement and maintain long-range planning activities for division.
Evaluate major trends in the specific areas of instruction and in new instructional methods and technology and leads the division in the development of effective pedagogies for adult leaning.
Evaluate and track effectiveness of the division’s faculty. Make recommendations for improvement, additions or deletions.
Coordinate and facilitate assigned curriculum committees with other Deans/IVP/AVC/EVC.
Coordinate division planning and implementation of development for faculty, professionals and staff.
Provide oversight to hiring committees for FT faculty.
Responsible for accurate documentation of faculty credentials.
Coordinate and oversee mentors for new faculty.
Resolve faculty personnel issues in division.
Assure effective evolution and development of all full time, and adjunct faculty in the division. Make employment recommendations to the Vice President.
Maintain effective division communication – academic planning, program development/implementation, program review.
Coordinate benchmarking and accountability for division success in terms of student outcomes. Ensure curriculum prepares students for success and meets community needs as well as SACS and Coordinating Board requirements.
Manage budget development through program, staffing and needs assessment.
Lead curriculum and program development and evaluation in the division.
Teach a minimum of one course per year.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree required for most divisions / Earned Doctorate preferred *; 3+ years teaching experience at post-secondary level; Instructional administrative experience preferred; Demonstrated leadership abilities (department chair/faculty senate); Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; Demonstrated ability in curriculum and program development and effectiveness; Expertise in adult learning methodologies as well as evaluation of instructional quality and outcomes; Ability to function/lead a collaborative work team.
* Technical divisions may consider candidates with a lesser academic degree and other non-degree credentials, such as advanced appropriate certifications.
EQUIPMENT USED:
PC workstation running on a LAN. MS Windows, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment.
CONTACTS:
College Staff: Regular contact with college administrators, department heads and faculty. Collaborative/collegial and consensus building environment.
External: Agencies, vendors, educational community leaders. May be required to maintain leadership position in community by serving on/participating in external organizations.
