ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide information and assessment services to support student learning and attainment of career goals.
Engage in active recruitment of students by maintaining viable communications with agencies and community organizations to assure a steady flow of applicants.
Present seminars and workshops based on student population and faculty needs.
Counsel students on using the Multi-Media Resource Center by training them on the audio, video, and computer programs appropriate for their specific program.
Collect, organize, and analyze information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics, for vocational and educational planning.
Maintain current knowledge of theory, practice, and ethics within the advising profession through professional development activities.
Conduct orientation sessions and seminars to inform students of course offerings and eligibility requirements.
Keep up-to-date on Immigration Service regulations and forms for international students by attending local meetings.
Provide services for the retention of “at risk students” including the socially and economically disadvantaged, the academically under-prepared, the non-traditional, and returning student.
Perform additional job-related duties, within reason and capabilities as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of two years experience working with non-native English speakers - Master’s Degree and fluency in Spanish preferred; Must be able to work with people in a courteous manner; Possess excellent oral and written communication skills; Good organizational skills and must be a planner; Ability to work with a diverse student population and identify needs of potential students; Ability to coordinate various admissions and registration activities required; Incumbent needs to stay current on legislation and laws impacting admissions and college policies.
