PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Provides the training and support function of the Assistive Technology Lab. Supervises the general lab operations performing training to the students and general clerical tasks as necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides training for students utilizing the Assistive Technology Lab.
Supervises the lab, lab personnel, and students using the lab.
Converts print text to alternative format, such as Braille, tape, or large print.
Maintains inventory, including keeping appropriate records.
Develops manuals for the use in training students and personnel on assistive technology
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required. College certificate or Associate’s degree preferred. Experience with Braille productions, including Nemeth Math and the ability to convert print text to Braille. Prior supervisory experience needed in addition to computer and assistive technology expertise.
EQUIPMENT USED:
PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, equipment to convert print text to alternative formats, and other general office equipment.
CONTACTS:
Contact with students, faculty and staff as necessary to provide and/or obtain information to carry out the general functions of the position.
COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:
Involves working with students, solving routine problems, and flexibility. Job requires good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include some weekend and evening hours. Job duties require little physical effort and few safety precautions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in a climate controlled office environment readily accessible to students and college staff.
