PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Performs standard tasks, which support the delivery of library materials to all the campus/consortia constituencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform physical processing of books and non-print, including: verifying accompanying paperwork; property stamping; attaching labels, targets, pockets, and plastic jackets.

Correspond with campus libraries via e-mail to submit requests for Interlibrary Loan materials.

Place fully processed books and non-print into bins for distribution to Libraries.

Perform physical processing of paper serials (periodicals, newspapers, and indexes), including: attaching targets, writing issue date and volume number on label, placing in bins for distribution to Libraries.

Prepare duplicate serials for mailing to EBSCO Missing Copy Bank.

Count and verify microform serials against packing lists.

Generate daily overdue notices; prepare notices for mailing and send copies to respective Libraries.

Empty bins arriving from Libraries and distribute contents to Automated Library Services staff as appropriate. Prepare empty bins for redistribution to Libraries.

Assist with incoming Interlibrary Loan materials, including the preparation of book straps, periodical slips, and the placement of material in bins for distribution.

Assist with outgoing Interlibrary Loan materials, including the typing of mailing labels and book straps and the packaging of material for shipping.

Maintain Interlibrary Loan paper files.

Act as backup and resource person for sorting and distributing U.S. and District courier mail.

Provide assistance with other departmental tasks as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and independently in a team-oriented environment.
EQUIPMENT USED:
PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment with MS Outlook e-mail, typewriter, and other general office equipment.
CONTACTS:
Contact with fellow staff members in Automated Library Services, as well as other staff at District Office.
COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:
Position requires excellent problem solving and communication skills to resolve material related problems affecting the Libraries, and Interlibrary Loans. Moderate physical effort required to lift resources (approximately 20 lbs): few health and/or safety precautions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office environment with access to staff, and vendors.
