PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

This position provides leadership and coordination for the curriculum review process, articulation services, and instructional resources for professional development for the college district.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and revise a curriculum review process, which provides the District with dynamic and effective curricula.

  • Facilitate the curriculum review and revision process through regular communication, workshops, and meetings with College Curriculum Facilitators, Curriculum Teams, College Education Program Councils, and Council for Education and Student Development.

  • Submit appropriate documents to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for program and course revisions process for technical programs.

  • Coordinate and maintain the course inventory for all academic and technical courses.

  • Provide resources to Curriculum Teams to guide them through the curriculum review process such as a Curriculum Review Process Manual, state guidelines and manuals, national, state, and local workforce trends, curricular trends, issues, and initiatives, and curricular and instructional resource materials and information, and organizations, conferences, meetings, and associations.

  • Provide guidance and assistance to Curriculum Teams regarding annual charges, tasks, and evaluation.

  • Supervise the Director of Articulation Services and ensure the articulation and linkage with the public schools, institutions of higher education and internal departments.

  • Provide technical assistance to staff and faculty in the development of curriculum proposals,

  • Attend program advisory committee meetings and other related curricular related meetings when appropriate.

  • Maintain the integrity of the catalog information on programs, degree plans, and courses.

  • Assist Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Development in specific projects and assignments.

  • Provide leadership in the review and revision of the Core curriculum for the District.

  • Maintain a home page, which contains manuals, newsletters, faculty resources, curricula decisions, course information, etc.

  • Maintain the historical and current files for program and course approvals.

  • Foster instructional innovation through the offering of workshops and/or resource material for faculty to promote initiatives such as cooperative learning experiences, service learning, external and/or applied learning strategies, team teaching, integrated learning environments, interdisciplinary approaches, authentic curricula and authentic assessment strategies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Doctorate.
  • Administrative experience in community college environment, and an understanding of a multi-college system.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pull teams together to meet goals.
  • Knowledge of and experience with curriculum development and revision processes, tech prep initiatives, dual credit, and program evaluation.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations that apply to community college courses and programs.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of projects simultaneously.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Manage cost unit budget.
  • Have ability to communicate vision and motivate people to implement vision.
  • Proven administrative experience.
  • Proven involvement with community and civic agencies and organizations.
  • Proven skills in problem solving ability and team building skills.
  • Highly self-motivated.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

CONTACTS:

Internal - The Associate Vice Chancellor will work with all Curriculum Facilitators (Associate Deans), Curriculum Teams, special committees and task forces, chief academic affairs officers and chief student services officer at each of the colleges, Director of Articulation Services, Director of New Program Development, and other college and district staff to develop and or sustain dynamic and evolving curricula that meet the demands of the workforce and the needs of the students.

External - The individual will need to work with contacts at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, professional associations, vendors, colleagues in other colleges and universities, school district administrators and faculty, accrediting agencies, and program advisory committee members as appropriate.

COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:

This position is critical in providing the coordination for the review, development, revision, and articulation for the district’s curricular initiatives. The individual will also provide guidance and resources to staff for professional development opportunities for the development and implementation of effective instructional strategies. The individual will have freedom within the guidelines of the policies and procedures of Lone Star College System to implement the goals that are approved by the CESD within the established budget. The individual is expected to display personal initiative and autonomy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work is performed in a climate controlled office environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards. Travel to the Lone Star College System locations and to external meeting locations will be required.
