PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Manages Program/Projects to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives. Plans and develops methods for implementing program, directs and coordinates program activities and exercises control over personnel responsible for specific functions or phases of program. Directs and coordinates personally, or through subordinates, activities concerned with implementation and carrying out objectives of program. Reviews reports and records of activities and/or changes methodology as required to redirect activities and attain objectives. Controls expenditures in accordance with budget allocations.

Responsible for all admissions under the direction of the Director of Enrollment Management, including individual approval, foreign students and early admissions. Serve as a resource in TASP-related decisions, including exemption determination and transcript evaluation. Assist with college recruitment programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of all information pertaining to admission to the college and its registration activities, including responding to inquiries from prospective students and college-wide distribution of the information through specially scheduled meetings.
  • Using guidelines established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and College policies, determine student residency status for tuition purposes.
    Keep all office personnel informed of changes in THECB and College policies.
  • Assist with and review the coding of student admission applications.
  • Make presentations at high schools as requested.
  • Conduct on-campus visits and tours as requested.
    Review application and information sheet and make recommendations for necessary changes.
  • Interview all applicants who do not meet general admission requirements and determine admissibility under the direction of the Director of Enrollment Management.
  • Refer students to the advising office for assessment or advising or to the continuing education office.
  • Respond to all inquiries for foreign student admission information.
  • Interview all foreign student applicants and determine admissibility according to visa status.
  • Review special cases with the director of enrollment management.
  • Complete foreign student questionnaires as requested.
    Maintain district-wide enrollment information on each foreign student during his tenure at the college.
  • Keep up-to-date on Immigration Service regulations and forms for foreign students by attending local and state meetings.
  • Serve as liaison between the foreign student and INS by preparing and submitting all forms necessary for change of status, reinstatement, extension of stay, transfer, and optional practical training.
  • Prepare report of district-wide enrollment of foreign student for Lone Star College System Board of Trustees. 
  • In the absence of the district foreign student advisors, assist in interviewing and processing foreign students admission.
  • Coordinate the physical preparation of all registration-related activities.
  • Assist with the input of student schedules.
  • Assist with supervision of student workers.
  • Process degree plan requests.
  • Evaluate incoming transcripts.
  • Assist students with graduation application process.
  • Coordinate arrangements for students with special needs for the ceremony.
  • Assist designated college personnel with prior learning assessment for students.
  • Work with district personnel to post alternatives to transcripts.
  • Attain personal goals and objectives and assist in the attainment of departmental and College goals.
  • Perform additional job-related duties within reason and capabilities, as directed by the Director of Enrollment Management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Minimum of one-year experience in a student services area.
  • Ability to work with people in a courteous manner. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

EQUIPMENT USED:

PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment.

CONTACTS:

Contact with faculty and staff as necessary to carry out the general duties of the position.

COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:

The incumbent in this position needs good organizational skills and must be a planner. The incumbent must have the ability to work with a diverse student population and identify needs of potential students. The ability to coordinate various admissions and registration activities required. Incumbent needs to stay current on legislation and laws impacting admissions and college policies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled open office environment, readily accessible to the general public, students, and staff. Some travel for presentations and tours of campus necessary. There are minimal safety cautions in this position.
