PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and general administrative duties that support the function of the Information Technology Department. This includes performance of basic administrative support duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor and track expenditures coming through department to coordinate and facilitate appropriate utilization of resources; this includes maintaining records of travel expenditures, vacation and sick time documentation, ability to obtain quotes, and schedule meetings and training sessions.

  • Responsible for maintenance and preparation of Unix and Colleague security login specifics.

  • Acts as second level support to help desk with routine problems and refers complex technical problems to appropriate resource.

  • Respond to end user requests for scheduling meetings, conferences, training sessions, taking messages, relaying information.

  • Screens visitors and responds to general public requests for routine information.

  • Generates Colleague support team productivity reports and maintains the task database.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • High school diploma.
  • Training in computer applications plus two years experience in high tech environment supporting technical department.
  • Must have a good conceptual understanding of the Information Technology field and be able to apply that knowledge in performance of administrative support duties.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Math and systems logic skills must be good.

EQUIPMENT USED:

PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, spreadsheet, word-processing and relational database software (preferably Microsoft Access), calculator, phone and other general office equipment.

CONTACTS:

Contact with faculty and staff as necessary to carry out the general duties of the position.

COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:

Must be competent to work with spreadsheet, word-processing and relational database software at the highest end user level. Must be able to work on complex projects with minimum supervision. Must use judgment and discretion in setting own priorities; resolve conflicts in schedules and coordination of schedules to meet end user requests. Must be willing to work as a team member.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in climate-controlled environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
