PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Under minimal supervision performs general accounting activities that are complex and broad in nature, specializing in general ledger and financial report functions; perform related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Prepares journal entries, cash and inter-fund transfers.

Reviews journal entries prepared by individual colleges; provides assistance and information regarding accounting practices and procedures.

Supervises the work of assigned personnel: determines priorities, schedules, reviews vouchers, reconciliation and computations; recommends and provides training to assigned personnel.

Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts (payroll, general bank accounts, due to/from accounts.)

Assists accounting clerk in reconciliation of large
Closes general ledger and prepares financial statements.

Assists in generating periodic reports for District Accounting Manager and Administrators (i.e. monthly auxiliary profit and loss status, college expenditure and budget status.)

Assists with reconciliation of accounts, budget accounts set-up/transfer; general ledger and chart of accounts maintenance and on-line live computerized transactions.

Establishes regular procedures and performs scheduled analysis of general ledger balance sheets accounts such as cash and clearing accounts, liability accounts, and inventory accounts.

Reconciles annual capitalization entries to general ledger.

Resolves problem accounts as assigned; prepares cost allocation for the institution’s benefit plans; maintains records; prepares various reports meeting state and local compliance requirements.

Prepares analysis of monthly investment reports for the Board Agenda; analyzes funds for timely movement and transfer from funds and/or journal entries; maintains General Ledger accounts, including additions, deletions and expirations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Business.
- Three-Five years of professional accounting experience including extensive experience in governmental accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Broad knowledge of general accounting principles, practices and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Attention to detail and ability to cope with several tasks simultaneously, and be deadline oriented.
- Initiative and analytical skills are mandatory.
- Demonstrated skills in the utilization of automated financial system including uniquery and report generation and in the use of PC’s and related software (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access).
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area.
EQUIPMENT USED:
PC, 10-Key, Mainframe for preparing reports and analyzing accounts.
CONTACTS:
Internal - Clerical and administrative staff; Internal auditors.
External - External Auditors, External vendors, Bank representatives, and State agency employees.
COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:
Job involves attention to detail and accuracy; working at a computer; analysis of financial data; meeting report deadlines regularly. Job duties require little physical effort and few safety precautions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in a climate controlled office environment not readily accessible to the general public.
