PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Under limited supervision, this person is primarily responsible for supporting the administrative functions of a large grant-funded program. This person will perform staff accountant duties, specializing in general ledger and financial report functions and will follow generally accepted accounting procedures. Performs grant accountant duties, specializing in general ledger and financial report functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Designs, plans, and implements processes and procedures for a variety of accounting related transactions including but not limited to cash receipts, accounts receivable, and purchasing for eight professionals at six sites.

Analysis of reimbursement submissions from independent school districts and community colleges for fiscal and programmatic compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.

Tracking expenditures against the grant budget of over $1,000,000 annually.

Review all purchase and check requisitions for subcontracts, mileage and travel reports.

Assemble information and develops reports and/or worksheets for financial reporting, budget and audit purposes.

Generates monthly reports for steering committee; i.e., monthly grant expenditures and budget status.

Supervise and trains student worker and part-time employees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Advanced training obtained through higher education equivalent to an Associates degree and/or on-the-job training in the principles of accounting and computer use in accounting.
- Five to Seven years of progressive work experience in accounting.
- Knowledge of current methods of computerized accounting and software.
- Knowledge and experience with Department of Education and/or Department of Labor Rules and Regulations concerning grant funding.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Organizational skills.
- Good supervisory and training skills.
EQUIPMENT USED:
PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment.
CONTACTS:
Internal - Contact with management, faculty, and staff as necessary to provide or obtain information to carry out the general functions of the position.
External - contact with various companies, agencies, and community-based organizations as necessary.
COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:
Position requires good organizational skills combined with effective interpersonal skills; the ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously, ability to prioritize workloads, and pay attention to details.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in a climate controlled office environment with travel to area schools and facilities as necessary.
