PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Under supervision of the Associate Dean of Instructional Initiatives or the Pathways Program Director (Lone Star College–Montgomery), this person is primarily responsible for supporting the administrative functions of a large grant-funded program. This person will perform staff accountant duties, specializing in general ledger and financial report functions and will follow generally accepted accounting procedures under limited supervision. This position is a grant funded position and as a result is periodically reviewed to determine if funds exist to continue this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Prepares journal entries, cash and inter-fund transfers.

Reviews journal entries of individual campus accounting clerks; assists with information regarding procedures.

Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts; assists accounting clerk in reconciliation of large accounts.

Generates periodic reports for district managers and administrators, i.e. monthly campus expenditures and budget status; Continuing Education Quarterly reports.

Prepares vouchers for payments and prepares journal entries or campus inter-departmental charges.

Recommends procedures for increased efficiency and accuracy.

Assists Administrative with reconciliation of accounts, budget account set-up/transfer.

Assembles information and develops worksheets for financial reporting, budget, and audit purposes.

Reconciles payroll expenditures with time and effort reports.

Assists Associate Dean and Project Pathways Director on special projects as assigned.

Develops and maintains databases and spreadsheets for documenting projects.

Performs duties essential to the smooth operation of the office, including purchasing, payroll, travel and organizing meetings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Advanced training obtained through higher education equivalent to an Associates Degree and/or on the job training in the principles of accounting and computer use in accounting.
- Three years of progressive work experience in accounting.
- Knowledge of current methods of computerized accounting and software.
- Organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Good supervisory and training skills.
EQUIPMENT USED:
PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment.
CONTACTS:
Contact with management, faculty and staff as necessary to provide or obtain information to carry out the general functions of the position.
COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:
Job involves attention to detail and accuracy; working at a computer; analysis of hardware and software; meeting report deadlines regularly. Job duties require little physical effort.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in a climate-controlled office environment not readily accessible to the general public. Regular travel between college locations may be required.
