Criteria for Admission
In order to be considered for admission into the Physical Therapist Assistant program, applicants must have satisfactorily completed the following minimum requirements:
  • Submit passing THEA exam scores in reading, writing and math or complete Lone Star College System Student Success Initiative (SSI) requirements.  To determine your SSI status, see a college adviser.
  • A grade point averag (GPA) of at least 2.0 in high school and/or college.
  • Completed a minimum of 40 hours in a physical therapy facility(ies) as an aide, volunteer or observer under the supervision of a licensed physical therapy professional (PT or PTA).
  • Regulations require that prior to patient contact, the student must have completed the Hepatitis B immunization series which is received over a 3 - 6 month period and have completed a certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Final acceptance into the program is contingent upon a satisfactory background check (as required by clinical facilities), which will be completed by an approved agency at the student's expense.
APPLICATION PROCESS:

1. Applicants must first complete the PTA program Pre-Application Checklist. An appointment must then be scheduled with a counselor in the Division of Natural Sciences & Health Professions to verify each item on the checklist before you are eligible to receive an application for the PTA program.

The pre-application checklist can be picked up at Lone Star College-Montgomery in either of the Division offices (Bldg. B, Suite 100 or 200).

 

2. An application packet to the Physical Therapist Assistant program must be completed and submitted to be considered for acceptance into the program. There will be one application deadline each year as one class per year will be admitted. Application packets for the class starting August, will be available beginning January.

3. Official Transcripts

  • Applicants who have attended high school and/or college in another country must have their transcripts evaluated and converted to U.S. credits by an outside commercial company.
  • High School transcript or G.E.D. certificate. If you are unable to obtain a copy of your high school transcript, you are required to take the G.E.D. examination and obtain a certificate. You may omit this step if you have attended a college or university.
  • Transcripts from all colleges attended.

4. Because admission to the program is competitive, the students who will be accepted are most likely to be those who score highest on the criteria established by the admissions committee including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Have completed a number of the general education core courses in the degree plan and.
  • Have the highest grades in these courses.
5. All successful applicants admitted to the PTA program will be required to attend an orientation session in the summer before starting the Program.
6. Acceptance into the PTA program is contingent upon completion of the pre-requisite, BIOL 2401, Human Anatomy & Physiology I, and PTHA 1201, The Profession of Physical Therapy, with grades of "C" or better.
