Biography:
Barbara Rask, violinist and violist, teaches applied lessons and String Ensemble at Lone Star College–Montgomery. A native of Buffalo, New York, she studied summers at the Chautaqua School of Music. As a graduate assistant at Michigan State, she received ongoing coaching with the Juilliard Quartet. She has been an assistant professor, lecturer, or adjunct faculty member at universities and colleges for more than thirty years, and has taught hundreds of string students of all ages. She has held the position of concertmaster in several symphony and opera orchestras, plays yearly faculty solo recitals, and also performs chamber music and contemporary music concerts.
Dr. Rask is a church musician and presently teaches at Houston Arts Academy, Christ Church United Methodist (Woodlands) in addition to Montgomery and Lone Star College-North Harriss. Her Mark Twain Elementary School (Houston) violins were recently invited to perform at the Texas House of Representatives. Barbara Rask also teaches many students in her home. She is married to bowmaker Trent Rask, of the Amati Violin Shop; they have one son, Alan Etienne Rask.
Dr. Rask has been an adjunct faculty member at Lone Star College–Montgomery since 1995.
