Why should a student use the lab?
The lab will help the student improve in the efficient use of their study time. A student can keep up with or even excel in his or her studies by getting help when he or she needs it. The lab helps students brush up on basic skills, develop good study skills, and provides an opportunity for self-paced work.
Who can use the ELC?
Any MC student or member of the local community can use the Extended Learning Center at Lone Star College–Montgomery.
Do I need an appointment?
No, you do not need an appointment. However if you wish you may reserve time with our Reading & Writing tutors.
How do I sign in? Do I have to sign out?
We have a computerized sign-in system, for only those students that are required to complete a certain number of lab hours for their English, Math or Science class. All others are not required to sign in. If you need to sign in, follow the instructions on the screen, or ask the receptionist. You must remember to sign out if you signed in to study or you may not get full credit for your time in the ELC.
Can I type a paper?
Yes, you can complete your paper in the ELC utilizing our computers and word processing software.
I don't have time to study. How can I organize my time?
See one of our study skills coordinators.. They are experts at helping you learn to manage your time and classes, as well as providing note taking and test taking techniques. We will have Student Success Seminars that will address these issues. See the schedule of seminars here.
Can you proof my paper?
Writing tutors do not edit papers. They help the student learn how to revise and proofread their papers. They can also help brainstorm for ideas for papers, organize rough drafts, and learn to avoid certain grammar errors.
Is this what my teacher wanted?
The best person to answer that question is your instructor. But bring your syllabus and your class notes; usually we can help you get on track if we know the particular assignment.
What's my assignment?
The lab staff does not keep a listing of your assignments.
