Hawkins to Retire as College President

Hawkins has served as president for LSC-Tomball since Jan. 2001. Prior to serving as president for LSC-Tomball, Hawkins was president of Tyler Junior College for 14 years.

During his career in education Hawkins has been an active member in professional and community organizations including the executive committee of the American Association of Community Colleges; board of directors of the Southern Association of Community, Junior and Technical Colleges; president of the Texas Association of Community Colleges; president of the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities; chair of the Texas Commission for National and Community Service; chair of the East Texas Economic Development Commission; president of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce; president of the Texas Foundation on Volunteerism and Community Service; board of directors of the Community College National Center for Community Engagement; and past chair of the board of directors of the United Ways of Texas.

“Dr. Hawkins and his wife Pat are treasured members of the Lone Star College System family and we will miss them tremendously,” said LSCS Chancellor, Dr. Richard Carpenter.

“Please join me in congratulating Ray on his well deserved retirement. We will begin a national search for LSC-Tomball’s fourth president in December,” said Carpenter.

Lone Star College System consists of five colleges, including LSC-CyFair, LSC-Kingwood, LSC-Montgomery, LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball, six centers and Lone Star College-University Center. With more than 51,000 students in credit classes this fall, LSCS is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area and third largest community college system in Texas.
