College Readiness Standard Regional Meeting to be Hosted by LSCS

Lone Star College System will host the north Houston regional College Readiness Standards meeting Oct. 20 at Lone Star College-Tomball.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in conjunction with the Texas Education Agency worked collaboratively to convene vertical teams comprised of secondary and postsecondary subject matters to develop the CRS.

The THECB, in partnership with local coordinators and the Educational Policy Improvement Center will sponsor 14 regional CRS meetings throughout the state. A major component and outcome of the regional meetings will be to increase awareness and support among community and education leaders of successful partnerships between public/higher education entities that increase student performance.

More than 200 attendees at the north Houston regional CRS meeting will work to develop regional plans for action that align curriculum and develop support systems so that all students graduate college and are career ready. 

Sessions will include presentations on the need for college readiness, current work in Texas and strategies for supporting college readiness for all Texas students. Dr. David Conley, CEO of EPIC, will serve as a presenter.

Conley is nationally recognized for his work on college readiness and is the author of “College Knowledge: What it Really Takes for Students to Succeed and What We Can Do to Get Them Ready.”

Lone Star College System consists of five colleges, including LSC-CyFair, LSC-Kingwood, LSC-Montgomery, LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball, six centers and Lone Star College-University Center.
