“Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)” to Run October 15-18

Lone Star College-Montgomery’s theatre department has set new dates for its production of Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) by Ann-Marie MacDonald. The dates and times for the show are Wednesday, October 15, at 5:30 p.m. (a free preview for the college and general public); Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 16-18, at 7:30 p.m., and a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday, October 18. All performances will be held in the Mainstage Theatre (Building D) on the LSC-Montgomery campus.

Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) is described as an exuberant comedy and original revision of Shakespeare's Othello and Romeo & Juliet. Constance Ledbelly, the main character, is a drab and dusty academic, who deciphers a cryptic manuscript she believes to be the original source for the tragedies, and is transported into the plays themselves. She visits Juliet and Desdemona, has a hand in saving them from the deaths the Bard had planned for them. In the process, she finds out what these women are all about. In true Shakespearean spirit, Constance plunders the plays and creates something new, all the while engaging in a personal voyage of self-discovery. With an abundance of twists, fights, dances, seductions and wild surprises, the play is an absolute joy of theatricality, according to Chase Waites, assistant professor of theatre and director of the production.

“This is a funny play with deep literary roots,” added Waites. “Audiences will get food for thought and have a good time getting full.”

In addition to its LSC-Montgomery performances, this production will travel to San Jacinto College-South for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival held October 20-25.

Ticket prices are $10 for general admission, $7 for seniors, and $5 for faculty, staff and students. Tickets can be purchased online at http://Montgomery.LoneStar.edu/theatre to support the theatre scholarship fund. The theatre department and MyCommunityTickets.com have partnered to increase scholarship funding for theatre students and provide patrons with a convenient way to purchase tickets for the production. Patrons are guaranteed a ticket when purchased online and all ticket contributions through the site support the scholarship fund for the theatre program. Patrons can also purchase tickets one hour before the performance at the box office located in Building D.
