Lone Star College System Chancellor, Dr. Richard Carpenter, addressed more than 1,600 LSCS faculty and staff at the 2008 convocation ceremonies hosted at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Aug. 20.

Convocation began with a welcome breakfast followed by greetings from Randy Bates, LSCS Board of Trustees Chairman.

“One of the most exciting accomplishments from the past year has been the passing of the bond election,” said Bates.

“So many of you worked tirelessly in your respective communities to ensure the bond election’s success and for that the board truly thanks you,” he said.

Following Bates remarks, Carpenter presented the LSCS year in review highlighting changes and accomplishments from the previous year in addition to construction updates and reports in regards to bond projects.

“As you will notice from the project lists for each college; infrastructure, security and health science building upgrades and additions are a priority system-wide,” said Carpenter.

Carpenter also highlighted new initiatives for the upcoming year supported by the board of trustees and the 2008-2009 budget. Initiatives and focus will include upgrades and expansion to Lone Star College-Online, workforce programs and corporate training through Lone Star College-Corporate College, tech services, international students, campus safety and security, student success programs and institutional research and effectiveness.

“We want to maintain our affordability and accessibility to the communities and students we serve while providing a world class education and support services,” said Carpenter.

“Each college has its own uniqueness and deep respect between its college and its community. That respect is something each college has earned,” he said.

Carpenter ended convocation thanking each faculty and staff member for their continued and support in LSCS and wished them an excellent start to the new academic year.
