The heart might work in conjunction with a multitude of other organs in the body, but it's the one that gets a great deal of attention at doctor's offices, hospitals, and now Lone Star College-Montgomery.

LSC-Montgomery is offering an Electrocardiogram (EKG) Monitor Technician Workforce Skills Award, a program that can be taken on its own or to add to skills of those already in the healthcare industry.

In just six weeks students will learn how to monitor electrocardiograms (EKGs). They will also be provided with an overview of the fundamentals of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology. No certification or testing is required to use these skills as an employee of a healthcare setting. The course would serve as a good supplement to those who work in nursing, doctor's offices, or hospitals.

How long does it take to complete the program?

The Electrocardiogram (EKG) Monitor Technician Workforce Skills Award
consists of one course comprising 2.4 Continuing Education Unit's (CEU's), and takes approximately six weeks to complete.

Course Description

Electrocardiogram Monitor Technician (CECRD 2101102)
This class will prepare the participants to monitor electrocardiograms (EKGs). An overview of the fundamentals of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology will be presented. It will include basic electrocardiography (EKG) procedures, interpretation of basic dysrhythmias and appropriate treatment modalities. This course includes 6 hours of monitoring observation. 2.4 CEUs. $124.

*For most healthcare programs, students are now required to have a complete immunization record to include a current TB screening (within one year of doing direct patient contact) as well as a completed Hepatitis B series (consisting of three shots). Some healthcare facilities may require a clear background check and a clean drug screen.
