Placement Testing

PLACEMENT TESTING

State law and Lone Star College System Student Success Initiatives (SSI) requires that all students be asessed to determine college level readiness in reading, writing, and math before enrolling in college.

The purpose of the testing is to determine whether a student has the academic skills to succeed in college courses. Students can meet the SSI requirement by being exempted from the THEA test based on ACT, SAT, or TAKS scores or by achieving a passing score on the ASSET, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, or THEA.

The Lone Star College-Montgomery Testing Center offers a variety of placement exams including the COMPASS, ASSET, THEA, and COMPASS/ESL.

Get a Testing Ticket

Prior to receiving a testing ticket, students are encouraged to speak with an Advisor in Student Services, Building E. Advisors will assist students in determining whether or not they will need to take college placement exams, or whether scores from a previous college placement exam will exempt them from taking additional tests.
