Sign Language
American Sign Language (ASL) teaches more than the physical language of ASL; it educates students in deaf culture and culturally appropriate behaviors as well. All ASL courses increase vocabulary and broaden receptive and expressive skills as each level builds on previous course knowledge.
Course Descriptions
Beginning ASL I
- Alphabet, numbers, commonly used vocabulary, fingerspelling, and basic grammatical structure and presentation skills.
Beginning ASL II
- Sentence structure, proper use of 'space', and storytelling skills.
Intermediate ASL I
- Commonly used vocabulary for "everyday" living, proper and improper sign usage, and increased conversational and narrative skills.
Intermediate ASL II
- Increased story telling skills.
