Course Requirements

Hours

Tennis CourtYou will receive 10 points for every hour you work out at the Wellness Center. You will get up to 300 points in a Semester - each hour is worth ten points.

All hours must be done here on campus at the  Wellness Center. When you are checked into the facility, you MUST be working out in order to receive credit.

You must also check in and out at the front desk to receive credit (please see syllabus for check in and out procedures).



Quizzes (ONLY for 1111 & 1112):

There are six quizzes that must be completed. Please see the Important Dates page for due dates. Quizzes will not be available after the due date. The information for the quizzes are in the book: Health -The Basics 7th Ed by Rebecca J. Donatelle contained in the respective chapters below. To access your quizzes you will need your access code issued with your textbook. There will be 25 questions for each chapter, each worth one point for a potential 150 points for the Semester.

Make sure to submit EACH question. When you have completed the quiz make sure to submit it.

You will be able to take each quiz a maximum of three times for the best score and there is no time limit for each quiz. Each quiz will have different questions.

Assignments: For Section (II's) KINE 2112

1. Apply knowledge of nutrition, weight management, exercise prescription AND a healthy lifestyle by either describing how you currently apply these things to your lifestyle or how you would ideally apply them. (50 pts)

Then pick three areas of wellness and relate them to aspects of your personal lifestyle.  This must be typed and a minimum of 1/2 page.

•Spiritual and relate them to aspects of your personal lifestyle.

Photo of Cardio Bicycles2. Pick one of the following health topics, find an article on it, and type a summary (½ - one page) on what you learned from the information. Then describe some basic ways you would adapt a fitness program to meet the needs of an individual with this health issue (the adaptations that you make can be general, but the source that you found them from MUST be included. (50 pts)

Assignment Research Poster Project for KINE 2112 only

*Requirements for students enrolled in: Weight Training II

Please see the Important Dates page for due date.

* Full credit will not be given after this date.
* You can either choose to do a Poster Project OR create a Web Page.
* The project must be related to course objectives as presented on web page.
* The instructor must approve the topic before starting the assignment.

Guidelines for Poster Project and Web Page:
  1. The project should be completed on a poster board or as a web page on a disk or a CD.
  2. A title must be included on poster/web page.
  3. A typed, double-spaced, two-page (this must be two complete pages to receive full credit) summary, covering the topic using font size 14-16, and should be placed on the poster. (This needs to be an attachment on the web page.)
  4. At least one visual should be included on the poster or on the web page. For example: a graph, drawing, photo, or magazine picture.
  5. References must include at least two sources. Sources can include journal articles, Internet articles, or other sources such as Newsweek. References should be typed on a page and also placed on the poster.
  6. Place your name and class title on the back of the poster or on the disk or CD that you turn in for the web page.
  7. Grades will be based on meeting ALL of the above requirements. Any component that is missing will lower your grade. The project is worth 150pts.
Pre/Post Fitness Tests:

There will be a fitness test at the beginning of the semester and at the end of the semester (please see the syllabus cover sheet for the weeks). Fitness for life students will take a cardiovascular one mile walk test and Weight Training will do a grip strength test and a sit-up and push up test.

You will sign up in the weight room for a testing time and you MUST show up for the test on time. If you miss the test, you will not be allowed to make up the test unless there is another spot available during that testing week.

Fitness for Life (II) will also be required to do push-ups and Sit up tests in addition to the Rockport Walking Test.

  • If you can’t make any of the testing days or times, you must make arrangements with your instructor before the last test during the testing week
  • If you wait until the tests are over, you will not be allowed to make the test up.
  • If you are more than 10 minutes late for the test, you will have to reschedule for another time.
  • If you have a special need or cannot perform the fitness test you MUST see the instructor prior to testing week.

*You can begin working out as soon as you turn your red card in to the front desk of the Wellness Center and you have an ID made. You do NOT have to complete your pre-test before you begin working out.
